I spend a lot of my time watching vloggers on Youtube. I love how they are able to share their values and insights with others and I learn a lot from them! There is one thing, though, that many people have been saying that makes me want to scream. Too often I hear these words: “Sorry for all of this” and then the person proceeds to point to their face, hair, and clothes as if their appearance is unacceptable.
I have a big question: Why are people apologizing for how they look!? They may not be wearing makeup, they may not have even brushed their hair, but it horrifies me that people are apologizing for who they are and what they look like! I would like to note that it isn’t just women who are saying these things. I have watched men talk about their hair and clothes in the same manner. I don’t want to leave you with the impression that I am speaking negatively about these people or wish to bring any sort of negative attention to them, but I would like to point out something that I feel is important: People compare themselves to what society (or someone) thinks they should be. But I have to say: Society is wrong! Let me back up my words with those from the bible. Though this verse is often used for modesty, I find it speaks volumes for this issue: “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” ~ 1 Corinthians 6:19,20 You were created by God (if you do not know about God, or are not a believer in Christ, I would love to direct you here, where you can find more information on that!). And as Matthew 5:48 states “Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven in perfect”. God created us without makeup, without (or without a lot of) perfectly kept hair, and without clothes. All of these things can be used to bring out our inner and outer beauty, but the absence of any of these things should not and most certainly does not take away from who we are. I pray that God can open all of our hearts and eyes to see just how perfectly he created us. If you ever feel like something isn’t good enough, that your nose is too big or hair too straight, just remember that God created you the way you are for a reason and that He cares so much about you that He sent His son to die for you and that His Spirit is with you wherever you go. I hope that this blog has helped some of you find joy in who you are. If you still are struggling to love who you are, you may always send me an email to talk! ~Jess

There's a battle going on inside us. I have chosen, after much consideration, to spend my life fighting for God in a sinful and God-hating world. This blog tells that story.
